My computer did a forced restart when I put it to sleep, I still have the folder that has the session data, I copied the files over to another drive to keep them safe and re-copied the files into audacity, when I attempted to do the auto recovery they ALL WERE BLANK! Please, for the love of goodness sake tell me there is a solution to this!
The thing is there is data in them, it shows the size.
I’ve found this Help forum doesn’t seem to like to be reminded of this elephant in the room – users forever have lost work due to the nonfunctionality of autosave, autorecovery, the issue around aup3unsaved not actually working. They generally either ignore the question or snark that the user “should have…” or in my case today be accused of wanting to drive a car but expecting the car to do everything for me automatically.
I’ve encountered this issue 3 times in the past 2.5 years. The developers are rolling out all sorts of “exciting” features but this unsexy problem remains unsolved.
If I knew a better free/open-source alternative I’d switch.
Many other types of software have an autosave, I am blown away that Audacity lacks this helpful feature. Plus, the snarky remarks are extremely unprofessional and provoke anger in the person needing help. They are not needed and are more like jokes in a situation that does not warrant them. Software will tend to run into many issues, that’s why an auto-save is perfect since it can save a screenshot of the project before the error hits. I wish some of the folks here would completely stop with those remarks. It’s not cool and it even causes more panic for the person, since that project, which is potentially lost forever, is at stake. The person doesn’t want jokes.
Agree on all counts, @darkdoge - and I suppose these snarks are jokes, tho’ jokes of which the user is always the butt. Autosave and autorecovery functionality is fundamental, not some bizarre off-the-chain feature.
Hope you were able to get help with your situation.
My work uses Audition–maybe I’ll give in and move to that for my own projects as well.
