Cannot hear sound while recording

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1.
I am using the latest Audacity version 2.2.2

My problem is that I cannot seem to find a way/setting that permits me to HEAR what is being recorded WHILE recording is taking place.

As I am recording track by track (as I don’t know how to record an entire album then split the tracks and assign track details (i.e. artist, track title, album name, track number, genre, etc.) this makes it VERY difficult to know when to start/stop recording!

I’d appreciate some feedback/helop in this matter.

Thanks.

Audacity > Edit > Preferences > Recording.

[_] Overdubbing (de-select)
[X] Playthrough (select) > OK.

Now you have to show Audacity where you want the playback sound to go. If you have a USB sound device, Window might assume it needs to send the sound there. Probably not in this case.

If you have speakers or a sound system, make sure it’s selected in the playback window (speaker icon) in the Audacity menu bars.
