Cannot edit selection (in stop mode)

Even though I’m in stop mode, all edit options are greyed out.
Effects do work. (So, yeah, I’m really not in stop mode)

Windows 7, 64 bit.
Audacity 2.0.5 (neither in 202)

Since I have the same issue in Ubuntu (on he same laptop), it is perhaps the files’ fault. Although it doesnt work on any file. So it propably isn’t.

Any one got a clue?
Thanks in advance!

Have you selected the audio that you want to edit: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_selection.html

If that isn’t the problem, please give steps to reproduce the issue (remember we can’t see your machine so you need to describe every detail of what we need to do to get the problem).

Hi,

well I

  • open some file
  • select something (it doesn’t matter wether I select with mouse or Edit → Select → some option, STRG + A)
  • i can’t edit it (every edit → “selected audio” option is grey) (is it “selected audio”? I have german controls, I mean the one below “copy to new audio track”)

Although now I see that I can edit via shortcuts. Whoopie!
That did’nt work last time either. Well, then I’ll learn them by heart and it’ll have to do.

Thank you for your time!

Could that be “Labelled Audio” ?
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/edit_menu_labeled_audio.html
That only applies if you have “labels” http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/label_tracks.html

If you’re looking for the “Cut” and “Delete” commands, they are in “Edit menu > Remove Audio or Labels”.

If you want the interface in a different language, see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_about_audacity.html#language

I have windows 7 and everything is grey in effects column even though it is in stop mode. What can I do??

Steve. If i click on edit and click select and then click all then the effects drop down darken and are usable. That is the only way it works for effects to function. Seems convoluted but works.

There are multiple ways to select audio. (for a detailed description, see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/audacity_selection.html)

By default, Audacity will automatically select all of the audio in the project if none is manually selected, but perhaps you have inadvertently disabled that option. To check, go to:
“Edit > Preferences > Tracks”
and ensure that the option “Select all audio in project, if none is selected” is enabled (ticked).
