Cannot copy selection

I have used my mouse to select a section of a track (it’s highlighted in darker grey) but I cannot copy it - the copy function is greyed out.

What do I have to do to copy the section I selected?

Press the Stop button.
Most of Audacity’s commands are unavailable while playing, recording or paused.
