Multi-Tasking question: can Audacity Record and allow you to edit (in another instance of the program) files at the same time?
Yes, but I wouldn’t recommend it. One false move and you could destroy the recording, for example, if you accidentally started playback, then Windows will stop the recording stream and start a playback stream, or if you apply an effect that requires a lot of system resources it could cause the recording to stutter (and you wouldn’t know about that until you play back the recording).
The safe way to record and do something else at the same time is to record on one machine and do whatever else on another machine.
Ok, thanx! I guess patience is the best advice after all.

Which isn’t what he said. He said record and edit on different machines. I know people who do pre-production on one machine while a recording is progressing somewhere else. Sometimes the crush of production timing dictates things like that. I can’t do it, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done.
