Can someone else remove effects?

Hi,

If we save something with effects on it can someone else, using audacity ot another type of software, remove these effects? We’ll be saving it as a wav file.

Thanks

They can’t be “removed” but sometimes they can be reversed.

Some effects like volume changes & EQ are reversible, at least to some extent. I.e. If you reduce the volume by -3dB or reduce the bass by -3dB, someone can boost it again.

You can’t remove echo, reverb, or limiting. Compression is theoretically reversible (usually) but practically speaking, it’s not.

It depends on the effect. Effect > Amplify just makes the work louder or softer. Anyone can easily work around that.

You should know that most voice disguising effects don’t work all that well because someone can be recognized by timing, cadence, expression, and word usage.

“That has to be Harry. He’s the only one who would use the word ‘elucidate’ in a sentence.”

That and Audacity can’t be used for surveillance, law enforcement or conflict resolution.

I’m just sayin’.

Shifting pitch up or down is also reversible.
So in-reality the Hollywood voice-scrambler effect does not provide anonymity.
