In Audacity 3.x, I often used the “Import Raw Data” feature to open raw PCM audio files. This was very useful for development and debugging, especially when checking PCM output directly from audio systems without converting it to another format first.
In Audacity 4.0, it seems that raw data such as PCM can no longer be imported in the same way. This is a significant limitation for my workflow, as raw PCM analysis was one of the main reasons I used Audacity.
I hope the raw data import feature can be restored in Audacity 4.0, or that an equivalent way to open raw PCM files can be provided.
That functionality hasn’t been implemented yet and may get added to a future version of audacity 4. In the meantime, I have added it to my web port of audacity 4: Soundscaper

It seems the team is going to implement raw data import.
Audacity 4 looks like a pretty big upgrade, especially the new clip editing and workspace features. The raw PCM import missing is a bit of a drawback though, so hopefully that gets added back soon. ![]()
Being an Ableton and RX user, raw data import is the only usage of Audacity for me. Sincerely hopes it will come back soon.
