Can no longer save/open files from my Mac Synology Drive folder

Audacity v3.7.7.0
Mac OS 26.3.1
I have a local folder that syncs to my Synology NAS via Synology Drive. It allows local working and then syncs to my server for backup.

I’ve been using this folder for over a year with my podcast, no issues. Went in this morning to record some new episodes and running into a bunch of errors. I updated to the latest version of Audacity, but that didn’t fix anything, nor did restarting.

  1. I cannot open any of my existing files from previous sessions. Move them out of this folder, they work fine.
  2. I cannot save to the folder, it goes through the process but no file is generated.

I’ve seen a few posts indicating this is expected behaviour, but as noted, I’ve been using the same workflow for awhile, so something else has changed since my last recording session in December.

I’m assuming some type of permissions, so wondering what permissions should be on the folder to ensure Audacity can read/write to it. The Drive folder is within my User folder too.

Can anybody tell me the permissions on a local folder in their User folder so I can confirm mine are setup the same.

This issue is typically caused by Audacity’s SQLite-based file structure (.aup3), which requires very specific file-locking capabilities that network-synced folders like Synology Drive sometimes struggle to provide—especially after a macOS update. Because Audacity “streams” data directly to the file during recording, any delay or locking conflict caused by the sync client will trigger a write error.
