Probably a dumb question, but I’ll ask anyway. Is it possible to run two audio interfaces into one MacBook Pro M1 running Audacity? I can plug in two interfaces. (Via USB C.) But when I do, Audacity only allows me to select only one interface. And if I open two separate Audacity windows and try to run one for each interface, only one of the windows at a time will work.
There was a technique where you could force two sound channels into a recording. But. The first thing the tool asked you was which clock you would like to use. It can’t use both and one of the two sound channels will drift off time.
I’m looking for that tool.

Any stereo interface will record two different analog sound channels.
If you need two stereo channels, there are interfaces designed to do that, but Audacity doesn’t like them very much.

What’s the job?

I should’ve been more specific about what I’m asking. I have several interfaces with two XLR preamps. Normally I record with only two mics—hence, my collection of two channel XLR interfaces. Lately, however, I’ve considered trying to record with three or four mics. The obvious solution is to buy a four channel interface. But if there’s a way to run two separate interfaces into Audacity, that would save me the expense of a new interface. And since it’s something I just want to dabble with, it seems excessive to drop a big chunk of cash into something that might not suit my taste. So working with what I already have seemed a cost effective way to go.
I’m guessing that what I’m trying to do won’t work—at least not without extra equipment that I likely won’t understand. I’m a musician, not a recording engineer. So my understanding of electronics is a bit thin. Nonetheless, I thought it was worth asking.
I appreciate your help.
