I have been using an recording app called “Recordium” on my iPhone, and its default format is .caf. I didn’t remark this until I made several recordings, and was neither able to open it (except with Quick Time) nor to convert it into mp3. After some searches I found Audacity and installed the FFmpeg, as was indicated in some threads, but still I got the error notice as follows :

Could you please help figure this out ? I think FFmpeg was correctly installed on my computer and the size of the recordings doesn’t matter as I first thought. Thank you a lot.
CAF is a container format so can contain different audio formats.
FFmpeg should import CAF containing AAC fine.
If the CAF contains Apple Lossless, FFmpeg 0.6.2 (the version I assume you have) will crash on it.
Audacity is currently updating its FFmpeg support to the latest 2.2.2 version of FFmpeg. This may solve the problem with your file, but to test that we would need to have an example file that crashes in 2.0.5. You could send it to http://free.mailbigfile.com/ and give us the address to download the file. Or if you can make the file less than 1 MB size, you can attach it here. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 .
