Both of my mixer channels are recording as one.

Hi Guys & Gals

I’m still fairly new to audacity so forgive me if this is an obvious question. I have a small Mixer with 1 XLR input and a 1/4 inch input. I’m getting together with a friend to do an audio recording tonight so I’m looking to plug one mic into the XLR and another into the 1/4 inch. I can make it work but audacity seems to want to record both as one channel, which is a bit inconvienent.

My question is: Can I seperate them into two channels? It seems like I should be able to, as when I go into my computer sound settings the mixer is listed as having two channels, however when I go into Devices in audacity the only thing I can choose from is mono or stereo, which doesn’t seem to help.

Thanks for any and all help!

What’s the mixer?

Also please see the pink panel at the top of the page and give us the requested information.

If it’s a USB mixer and you are on Vista or later, make sure Windows has the mixer set to record in stereo: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_how_to_s.html#rinstereo.
