Could it be something as simple as the zoom level you are using? Try reopening the exported WAV file and keep zooming in. If it starts to resemble the waveform of the recording, the ‘issue’ might be just that.
When i import the exported track that is flat, if i zoom the track out, stretch it, it looks like it does while recording..if i zoom the track back at the beginning of the track ( waves get smaller ) it looks flat…very strange
if i zoom the track back after recording, ( make the waves smaller, from the start ) than it looks flat.. is that what you mean with gain slider ? can’t see any effect that is on,This is just really weird.
I see. I thought you had established that my previous explanation was indeed the reason. When you zoom out the waveform bunches up. I can look if you want next time I put my PC on.
ok, thank you…this is all just weird, i had this problem when i recorded with Magix Music, some recordings went flat, others was normal…i suspect this is either the usb, or since it was ok the first recordings, something is happening in Audacity, maybe signal ? i only have microphone input on this pc, but it did work in the start, so just confusing.
Try not to worry about it. Different music gives different waveform shape. I have many recordings that look like your screenshot and they work just fine.
i know that, but i have old recordings from the same song, that don’t look like that…the other problem i see when recording, is when i have set the volume, no tone goes over that volume set…like before, when i recorded with Phono, i had to adjust the volume down, cuz some tones/spikes went over -6DB. here no tones goes over, stays around the set volume, it goes down with the quiet parts of the song, but never over. Even pops/spikes…that too me is strange, but don’t explain the waves.
As an experiment you could try using Ocenaudio in place of Audacity and see how you fare with that. It doesn’t do everything that Audacity does but it’s still very good. I use both.
I looked at both files you uploaded to SwissTransfer (I love that service!) and they both looked and sounded fine to me. They do look like they had the tops chopped off but when you zoom in, they look as you would expect from ‘robotic’ drum patterns. All I did was normalise them to increase the level without distortion. IMHO there isn’t a problem other than one of expectation.
ok, thank you…this is really strange, since i have old recordings of the same song, they look normal. The new recording, looks fine when zoomed out ( longer ) but looks flat when shorter…i think it has to be something in Audacity when Exporting, or it’s the USB…but the first recordings looks just fine, it just happened on the 8 recording…and every vinyl i record now, looks flat when zoomed in ( smaller waves ) but fine when zoomed out ( longer ).
