With Audacity, the Audio Host is set to “MME”; Output devise is set at “Speakers - High Definition Audio”; Input devise set at “Microphone - High Quality Audio” ; Input Channels set at “2 - Stereo Input Channels”.
The recording is working except there is a background noise.
How is that background noise removed. I have used several Effects without removing the background noise.
Try the Noise Removal effect. If the noise is bad you can get artifacts and “The cure can be worse than the disease”, but it’s usually worth a try. Make sure to get a Noise Profile, so that the filter knows the characteristics of your particular noise…
If you have a single-pitch noise such as AC line hum, a notch filter can be very effective. But other than line-hum, single-pitch noise is rare.
And, in some cases a high-pass or low-pass filter can be helpful, but it’s a rare case for the noise to occupy a different frequency band than the program material, so there is usually some damage to the good audio also.

If you are using the microphone built-into a laptop, don’t expect great quality. For best results, you need a “studio style” condenser mic, or a "performance mic (not a “computer mic”) and a USB audio interface with the proper XLR microphone input, or a “studio style” USB mic.
You’ll also need a nice quiet environment and good mic placement. Plus, something good-sounding to record.
