.autosave silenced recording

Hi all,

I’m using OS X Yosemite (10.10.5) and Audacity 2.03. I used a .dmg installer.

I recorded a very important interview earlier. My computer crashed. Great. I’ve read every possible tutorial.

Note: I’m not technology illiterate, I just need guidance.

I found the .autosave file and I’ve opened the autosaved recording, but it’s silenced. I’ve tried to “verify disk permissions” and force quit Audacity but nothing comes up. I am extremely desperate at this point. I need this recording.

I have looked at the log and found the autosave files, I just do not know what to do next.

Please help and thank you in advance!!

Have you had a look at the manual?

There’s a page for crash recovery:

http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recovering_crashes_manually.html

Reguires a tiny bit of Google-foo, I’ll admit

2.0.3 is very old now. I strongly recommend you update to the latest 2.1.2 release from http://audacityteam.org/download/mac.

If you have not done so yet I also recommend you use Go > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Verify Disk.

Feel free to attach the AUTOSAVE file and paste the log. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 These will let us see where the data for the unsaved project is and whether the AUTOSAVE file can recover it.

If the data exists and you never edited the recording, you can also recover it manually (perhaps with channel reversal if it is a stereo recording) thus: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/recovering_crashes_manually.html.

Be prepared though that the crash (or the reboot) might have wiped out the data.
