automatic volume controls

is there any way to change the volume level throughout the day? I own a health club and members want the music to be played slightly lower during the early morning and overnight, a little louder during the dat, and loud during our prime time. Is there anything i can do beside putting a master volume control out where anyone can change it? The fewer hands on my stereo, the better.

Audacity is a post production tool, not a real-time processor.

However, if you are willing to produce the tracks ahead of time, you can put the whole day’s music on the timeline and use the envelope tool (tool case on the left) to change the volume as the day goes on.

That will get you right up there with filesize and length of performance so Audacity may become unstable.

we typically play “top 20” music from a company called Club Comm that loops every 2 hours and the music changes once a month . would i need to create an entire months playlist to be able to do this?

<<<we typically play “top 20” music from a company called Club Comm that loops every 2 hours and the music changes once a month .>>>

So for a month, Luke Germaine’s “Without You” appears at quarter after every other hour. On the first of next month, another two-hour block of music comes in and somebody else’s song appears at quarter after every other hour.

Since you need to change the volume at certain times of the day, you need to place the two-hour block on a timeline and keep pasting it on there again and again until you get to the 24-hour mark. Then zoom out and use the envelope tool to gently change the volume over the course of the performance. Then export to one single file that you start at what you consider the beginning of the day and then runs continuously. until you stop it, getting louder and quieter as the day goes on.

This is assuming you’re going to play an MP3 or WAV or other music format from a computer. You never did say how you present the music.

You need to know that with files that big, it’s possible that the computer will become instable and crash during production. I also don’t know any way to make a music system loop automatically at the 24-hour mark, so that will be an adventure. There’s no technical reason that should not work.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to adjust the volume on the radio each time you have a tea break? (or whoever is on duty at the particular time of day).
