Automatic Crash Recovery

I am using Audacity 2.1.0 on macOS Sierra 10.12.6 on MacBook Pro (early 2011). I’m thinking of getting a new laptop, but until I do so, I’m using this configuration (though I have considered upgrading my macOS to High Sierra or to Mojave and then updating Audacity to the latest supported version).

When working on a project—and I was able to finish it as well as creating new projects as separate components of it within Audacity—I encountered crash recovery messages. I want to avoid getting those in future projects as it’s many clicks and it just seems like it might be an unstable way to work in the program. Will upgrading Audacity for my mac (current or updated macOS) fix this? Or perhaps you can guide me to the best way to ‘answer’ the options within the error message. Thanks!

Here are the messages upon opening any pre-existing AUP –

“Some projects were not saved properly the last time Audacity was run” (then it shows the recoverable project name).
It offers the options: Quit Audacity; Discard Projects; Recover Projects

When selecting the project and “Recover Projects” (I have yet selected “Discard Projects” as I don’t know what will happen), I get this message: “Error Opening Project/Couldn’t find project data folder”

When “OK” is selected at that window, I get this message:“Error Opening Project / Could not load file (name/autosave)”

When “OK” is selected, I get “Warning - Orphan Block File(s)”
[69 of them]
Options are to continue without deleting; close project; delete orphans

I have just chosen to ‘continue.’

This is a lot of clicks to deal with before ever getting to an existing project and/or to a new Audacity project.

Thank you for your help.

(though I have considered upgrading my macOS to High Sierra

My highest machine is High Sierra and I have no real plans to go any further for a while. Catalina doesn’t support the current Audacity and a number of other programs I like. There are ways to force it to work and a new Audacity version will be along shortly.

“Some projects were not saved properly the last time Audacity was run”

Also on the drawing board is a Project format that doesn’t do that.
