Audio delay through headphones in real time, HELP.

I’ve seen several topics on latency and all that, but I honestly don’t think that’s my issue- considering at the end of every video i’ve seen, the latency correction happens after the track has already been recorded.
My issue is as follows,
I’m a aspiring vocalist, and I have a fairly simple set up- a focusrite iTrack solo, and a Rodes NT1 Mic; and of course, Audicity.
The only time I’m experiencing the delay is within my headphones during my recording, it’s a subtle delay- but it feels as though I’m getting interrupted by myself, and I get stopped in my tracks.
I’d like to be able to hear myself in real time over the instrumental, without there being such a delay.

I understand this is a vague question, but I’m willing to answer questions to clear things up.

Plug your mic and headphones into the focusrite. Don’t launch Audacity, leave it closed. Ensure that the “direct monitor” switch is on. Can you hear the mic through the headphones with no delay?

Can you hear the mic through the headphones with no delay?

Not kidding. That has to work for echo-free, perfect overdubbing.
