Audio clicks/pops while overdubbing

I’ve been using Audacity for many years and have never encountered this problem until recently. The initial track seems to sound normal but whenever I try to do an overdub there are constant clicks and pops. I checked my cables and connections. I also made sure to download the most recent version of Audacity. My audio interface is brand new and functioning fine. Could it be a problem with my new HP computer? It’s a lower-end model costing only $350 but everything else seems to be working fine. I’m stumped.

I’m not sure if this is helpful but I had similar with my gaming PC where there would be semi-regular audio pops. This turned out to be caused by some form of audio latency so I went through a bunch of steps to reduce that, including changing BIOS settings and disabling some processes running in Windows. Sorry I can’t be more specific but I hope this can set you on the right path at least.
