Audacity won't record - What am I doing wrong?

I have Audacity working on a tower, running Win 10 but on this laptop which also has Win 10 it won’t??

Version 2.3.3.

I would appreciate if someone can point me to the thread or post that can help me. Sorry to land this on you, especially as it’s my first post.

Hopefully, I have the settings that will help someone to understand what my problem is. My laptop is a Dell Latitude E6400 which is about as much as I can tell you.

What are you trying to record from? The microphone built-into your laptop? Streaming audio? Etc.?

Hello thanks for your reply.

I am learning languages, and I’d like to be able to record the target language(s) that is/are being spoken to from sites like Youtube. I am not into ripping music off the internet etc, I simply want to record what I can hear spoken through my speakers/headphones.

Tonight, the internal microphone could hear me clapping my hands, but I couldn’t get it to record a gentleman speaking Polish to me from an MP3 file. The purpose is so that I can put the files onto my phone to listen to as I do my day job.
