AUDACITY TRYING TO ACCESS PERSONAL FILES?

Hi,

I’m using version 3.0.0 and having one or two issues but this one was very worrying:

My AVG anti-virus popped up 3 warnings, each for different files, saying that audacity.exe was trying to access them. 2 were Word Documents and the other was a spreadsheet, none of which had anything to do with Audacity.

Thankyou anyone,

strumpicker

Did you get Audacity from the official download links: https://www.audacityteam.org/download/

What is the full, complete and exact message from AVG?

Yes I did download it from the official site.

I can’t remember the exact wording but was saying that audacity.exe was trying to access the file xyz. Do wish to Allow or Block it?

Hi,

Yes I’m sure I downloaded from the official site.

I can’t remember the exact wording but it was saying that audacity.exe was trying to access file xyz, and did I wish to block or allow it.

PS I have since uninstalled and re-installed.

Cheers,

Audacity requires access to a few specific directories for saving Audacity preferences and temp files. It also needs access to read files that you want to import and write files that you want to save / export.

The new “.AUP3” project format is a special kind of SQLite database file.

Audacity also requires access to your computer’s audio system.

The warning from AVG may have simply been telling you that Audacity was trying to access those (necessary) resources. Without knowing the exact message from AVG it’s impossible to say if that was the case or not, but that would be my guess.
