Audacity stuck while starting up

I used Audacity for quite a long time to record vocals. It crashes sometimes but after I close it and open it again, it’s back to normal. But one day, it was lagging so much that I ended the processes using Windows Task Manager. After I did that, it can’t launch like it usually does before. I’ll always end up in the “Audacity is starting up…” window with the launching image.

What’s weird is after the whole crash thing happened, I can’t launch FLStudio and Melodyne properly. Whenever I opened youtube, a notification will pop out saying that the adobe shockwave flash is not working properly, there’s also a disable button. I can’t play SoundCloud tracks as well.

Then I restarted my whole computer, opened up FLStudio and Melodyne. To my surprise, the 2 programs worked well. Though, when try to change the sound settings to ASIO4ALL tools, FLStudio crashes. I don’t really know what’s wrong with my PC or Audacity, can somebody help me with this problem?

PS : I installed ASIO4ALL a few days before that happened, does that have anything to do with this issue?

Have a look at the pink panel at the top of the page:

which version of Windows you are using, the exact three-section version of Audacity from Help > About Audacity

Audacity does not ship with ASIO support so it does not work with ASIO4ALL. You can compile Audacity with ASIO support yourself as long as you don’t give the build to anyone else: Missing features - Audacity Support .

Have you installed virtual sound devices such as programs to record YouTube videos? Audacity may not work with those, and some of those type of programs will probably be laced with viruses.

Perhaps what you should do is use Windows System Restore to go back to the point before you installed all the new programs. Then run a deep overnight virus scan.

Note also that some anti-virus applications may stop Audacity launching. If you hit that problem after doing an anti-virus check, you should be able to tell the anti-virus application to exempt Audacity from restrictions.

I’m using windows 7, Audacity 2.0.5 and I installed with the .exe installer. Though, I tried reinstalling it with the zip but it still didn’t work.

I’ll try that, thank you so much!
