Mac OSX 10.6.8 Audacity 2.0.5
Audacity crashed in the middle of a recording. Now every time I launch Audacity it just hangs. Most of the menu choices are grey. Automatic Data Recovery is checked but it never tries to open anything. Tried downloading and reinstalling audacity, tried rebooting mac. The only way to quit the app is to do a force quit. Tried opening audacity by loading it from known good audio files.
When you start Audacity, does the Automatic Crash Recovery dialogue appear, like this?
If you don’t want to recover the recording, press “Do Not Recover” in that dialogue, or open Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder and type:
~/Library/Application Support/audacity/AutoSave
then delete the “autosave” file for the project.
If you want to recover the recording, please attach the autosave file for the project so we can see it. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1 .
If it is essential you use Audacity in the meantime, rename the file’s “autosave” extension to “auto” or something other than “autosave”, which will stop Audacity trying to load it. Then copy the “projectnnnnn” temporary folder for the project (where n are numbers) from the Audacity temporary directory to somewhere safe like your Desktop. You can look at Audacity > Preferences: Directories to see where the Audacity temporary directory is.
