Audacity stops working after working one time [SOLVED]

First time poster…
I’ve been using about 2 years…absolutely NO problems at all…Audacity 2.0.5…w/ LAME…
All I do is digitize analog audio and make CD’s…from reel-reel…cassette…LP’s…

Things worked PERFECTLY until about 2 days ago I hooked up a DAT player and started
ripping old DAT tapes…

Now…I can open Audacity and I can open 1 WAV file and work with it…
I can open a 2ed WAV file but Audacity will NOT play the file…The marker just
sits there…

I reinstalled Audacity and I can open 1 file, work with it…save it…
But when I open the 2ed file…Audacity just does not work…

I uninstalled 2.0.5 and installed the newer 2.1.2…Exactly the same thing…

Uninstalled 2.1.2 and re-installed 2.0.5…nothing has changed…

Win 7 /64 bit I5…8Gb…SSD…I use M-Audio Delta Audiophile card…works fine…

Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot this…???

I uninstalled 2.0.5 and installed the newer 2.1.2 … Uninstalled 2.1.2 and re-installed 2.0.5

Reinstalling Audacity doesn’t reset Audacity. Audacity keeps preferences and settings in a separate place to make upgrades easier. The 2.1.2 installer has a setting where you can burn everything off and start over, but 2.0.5 doesn’t. So you are probably using 2.1.2 preferences on 2.0.5 right now. If you never reset anything, they may be the original 2.0.5 settings and they maybe broken.

Describe the connection. You can connect DAT machines as a digital signal or analog. If you get the digital wrong, Audacity will wait forever for a signal. That and DAT machines have this reputation… Always double record a DAT show so you have something when the DAT tape fails.

I can open 1 file, work with it…save it…
But when I open the 2ed file…Audacity just does not work

Describe how you’re recording the work—in detail. Audacity will not Save a sound file. It Saves Projects and Exports sound files.

A while ago, we had a poster who, instead of exporting or saving the work, crashed everything and used Disaster Recovery to work on his show. One day Disaster Recovery failed.

Thanks guys…
I only do a couple things with Audacity…so I am not “experienced”…but I can do what I want to do…

DAT…Sony DTC-A7…connected SPDIf cables to the SPDIF connectors on the M-Audio Delta sound card…
Took a little fiddling around but I am recording from the DAT…DAT is connected to the coax connectors on the DAT…

Now…I think I was a little misleading…

I am NOT having an issue with the DAT…

I mentioned the DAT in my original post as I thought maybe I changed some setting to get the DAT to work…
and maybe that was my what was causing my problem…I now think that is NOT the case…

I am having problems with files that I have already ripped and exported them as WAV files…These files were taken from
a live recording from a Zoom H2 digital recorder…

Time sequence…
Thurs I connected the DAT…got it working and ripped an entire DAT tape and exported it as a WAV file…
I edited the file…broke out about 15 different tracks…

Fri…did no work on the system…

Sat…I did a live recording on the Zoom H2…WAV files…transferred those Zoom files to my DAW…
Opened up one of the files and started editing that file into 11 different tracks…(bluegrass band)…
Then I started cleaning up the tracks…did 6 of them when I started having problems…

That’s where I started in my original post…

I now believe it is something in my PC…I’ve done some cleanup work but so far have not found anything amiss…

I then loaded Audacity up on a DIFFERENT PC…and am now editing the files I was having problems with…

I’ll do my audio work on the 2ed PC until I figure out what’s wrong with my DAW PC…

I will uninstall 2.0.5 again and will check here http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/preferences.html and try to get everything cleaned out…and reinstall 2.0.5 again…

Don;t think I want to upgrade to 2.1.2 until I know I have 2.0.5 working correctly again…

I hope I’ve answered your questions…Keep in mind…I have NO issues with the DAT…it is my previously recorded work that
came from a live Zoom recorder that is giving me issues…

Ok…I just tested the DAW by opening an old WAV file I did several months ago…the file opens up in Audacity…but will NOT
play…also…the"X" in the side panel…(don;t know the proper name for it)…will NOT close the file…have to close Audacity
to close the file…

I think I got it…
Wiped out the preferences folder and reinstalled…

Right now…it’s working fine…

Many thanks all…
Appreciate your help…
