Audacity stops recording on Windows 10

I’ve had Audacity 2.0.0. (the .exe came on CD with my Lenoxx TT500) on my Acer laptop for a while now, but has only erred recently by stopping my recordings after various points in time (1 second, 3 seconds, and 20 seconds) whenever I seek to record my vinyls. Windows 10 will not allow me to install the latest Audacity. I have read previous posts and have rebooted my computer. I’ve even changed the project rate, and all that happens is that the recording stops at later or earlier points in time. What else can I do?

Thank you.

Windows 10 does not stop you installing Audacity, unless you have downloaded a malware Audacity version made by someone else. You can download the current Audacity 2.1.2 from us at http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows.

Windows might possibly complain about compatibility of Audacity if you have upgraded to Windows 10 on the same machine without updating your computer’s audio drivers. See http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Windows_10_OS#drivers.

On Windows 10 you need to hold SHIFT when clicking on Shut Down to reinitialize all resources. If you just press Shut Down, this by default keeps the same kernel session and driver states that you had before.

Have you tried changing the USB cable and making sure it is tight at both ends?

I managed to get the updated Audacity. It must have been a problem with my computer.

In the process of looking at my audio drivers, and am installing updates from Realtek.

I had no idea about holding SHIFT when shutting down. I will keep this in mind - thank you!

And I have, but it might be a good idea to get a replacement once I find out where to get one.
