Audacity stops recording in the middle of session

Hi all. I am using Audacity to record, and all of a sudden, it’s not saving the audio that my microphone is picking up. I can clearly see the wave forms as I speak into the mic, but as soon as I hit stop recording, it automatically makes the line go flat and I can’t hear anything on the playback.

Any idea of why it would suddenly stop working like that?

I can’t remember hitting any buttons (on purpose) other than the record and stop record.

Please help!

I’d guess that (a) you’re using an old / obsolete version of Audacity, and (b) the directory where Audacity is trying to write the recording is not writeable.
