Audacity Section Highlighting Problems

Hey all,

I have problems with highlighting sections of a song with audacity. When I highlight, whether from left to right or from right to left, and I’ve zoomed all the way into the track, it seems to select more than what I have highlighted. Sorry if this is a bit confusing, but if you view the attached screenshot, you can see that the highlighted bit where all the times are (which is the bit I highlighted myself) is different to what is highlighted on the track. Any help to fix this is appreciated. I’m getting really annoyed with this as deleting portions of the track is different to what I intend

Thanks a bunch

Audacity version 2.1.1 on Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit. The downloaded version of audacity was also the .exe version, and NOT the zip file version

The selection will always be a whole number of samples : when you’ve zoomed-in so you can see individual sample dots it will become conspicuous that your selected-region will change [jump] in 1-sample steps, see …
selection is in sample whole steps.gif
The interval between each of the dots at a sample rate of 44100Hz is a minuscule 0.0000226757 of a second.

I am experiencing the same issue with highlighting a small portion where I’d like to increase or decrease the volume. It does not allow me to be CTRL scroll and be specific. Instead it seems that there are defined larger sections now and small specific highlighting is not the same after I installed the latest update in May 2023.
