Audacity repeated crashes

Hi!

Audacity has started to repeatedly crash for the last few days. First it came up with an error report that repeatedly froze the program. Then, I tried:

  • resetting Audacity (deleting the audacity.cfg files in Finder)
  • downloading Audacity 2.4.2
  • downloading the most recent Mac update so I am now on 10.15.7 Catalina
  • clearing the orphan files every time I start up

Shortly after I start work again, it crashes and says it has closed unexpectedly. I am always able to retrieve my work, but I can’t get more than 5 mins of work done, if that. I tried restarting and shutting down my computer separately. Any advice?

Does your project have multiple tracks? If so, check that they are all at the same sample rate, and are the same as the project rate. If not, use Tracks > Resample to resample the tracks that are different from the project sample rate.
