So I record youtube videos and use audacity to record my commentary. Well for some reason I am now having trouble with it wanting to cut up my intro. I say “hello everyone its ahobodude your friendly neighborhood hobo” and audacity records it as “hello everyone its ahobodude your hood hobo” Idont have a vast knowledge of audacity I know very minimal about trhe program BUT I know there is built in sound barriers, where if it doesn’t reach a ceraitn decibel it doesn’t record it, well ive yelled this into my mic and it still randomly cuts some out. I’m at a complete loss of what to do. Any and all guidance is greatly appreciated.
You can get that if you use a USB microphone because they like to record low level. And you have Edit > Preferences > Recording > Sound Activated Recording selected.

De-select Sound Activated Recording. Make sure you have your microphone settings high and turn off all the Windows sound tools and services. Make sure the Audacity recording controls are turned up.
A good recording has the sound meters bouncing around -6 or so on the recording sound meters. If you have Gradient Meters selected, it’s the yellow zone.

well ive deselected it, it wasn’t selected to begin with, and reselcted it and redeselected it and nothing has worked. so I don’t know what to do know. I do have my recording hitting the -6 range as well.
You have never told us what version of Audacity you have - see the pink panel at the top of the page. You could probably start by installing the latest Audacity 2.1.2 from http://audacityteam.org/download/windows. Enable the box “Reset Preferences” halfway through the installer and when you launch Audacity, confirm you want to reset preferences. This will give you factory Audacity settings.
Please also tell us make and model number of the mic and how it connects to the computer. Is it a USB headset, if so does it have drivers you need to install?
