Audacity project won't open, but data folder is okay

Hello all,

Just today I found out that a rather important Audacity project file I did a couple of years ago was corrupted. However, nothing in the project’s data folder was damaged. I was able to piece everything together using the .AU files. I also opened the AUP file in a text editor (namely Notepad) and it looked like it had nothing at all to do with the project; it was a bunch of garbled text.
With the data folder being (miraculously) unharmed but the AUP file somehow becoming damaged, is there any way for me to recover this project? Or am I going to have to see about redoing it?

I’m using Audacity 2.1.3 on Windows 10.

I was able to piece everything together using the .AU files.

So we understand this, you have a working show now, right? All the singers in the right place and all the orchestration in place?

Immediately Export the work as a WAV (Microsoft) 16-bit file, or multiple files if the performance is in multiple tracks.

is there any way for me to recover this project?

I thought you had everything together?

If you only have the _DATA folder with all the tiny fragments in it and it’s an edited, produced show, that’s the end of the world.

Sometimes, if you have a mono, unedited recording, you can use file management tricks to open the work without the AUP file. As the show becomes more complex, the possibility of rescue rapidly vanishes.
