Audacity problem with new lame version

Hello,

I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

I uninstalled an older version of Audacity and downloaded version 2.1.2. I keep it on a thumb drive.

I also uninstalled an older version of LAME and installed version 3.99.5. It is also kept on a thumb drive.

I’ve used this configuration (thumb drive) for about a year.

Suddenly, I am receiving two error messages from Audacity

 1. Cannot find lame_enc.dll. (or something like that)

 2. The version of LAME is not compatible with the (version) of Audacity (or something like that)

I have tried using the preferences>find the location of the dll etc. it didn’t work.

I assumed that Audacity would be compatible with the new LAME version but I am wondering if that is the case. ?

If I decide to reinstall on to the C:\ drive what path(s) would I direct the unzipped files to ?

Thanks

I’ve always downloaded the “Audacity version” of LAME from here, and I’ve installed it by running the EXE file. It’s version 3.99.3, but there’s nothing in the latest version that affects sound quality, and as far as I know nothing that would improve it’s use with Audacity (LAME Changelog). 3.100 will have sound quality changes/improvements.

If I decide to reinstall on to the C:\ drive what path(s) would I direct the unzipped files to ?

On my computer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Lame For Audacity.

There is some information about that on ths page.

 1. The version of LAME is not compatible with the (version) of Audacity (or something like that)

I believe you need the 32-bit version even if you’re running 64-bit Windows, because Audacity is a 32-bit application.
