Audacity not seeing my Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 output

I recently purchased a new computer, Mac, using macOS Catalina, Version 10.15.5, and I can no longer get Audacity to recognize the output of my Focusrite Scarlet 2i2 box. So, I cannot transfer my old cassettes from my casset player to the Focusrite and onward to Audacity. I tried to update Audacity and that accomplished nothing.
It would be nice if the matter were much more simple. I think Audacity should be able to see my Focusrite merely because it is there. What happened to “plug and play?”
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you one and all.

What happened to “plug and play?”

We can inquire at Apple about that. They peeled off all the apps and services running 32-bit in favor of 64 bit. Audacity was 32-bit. High Sierra works OK. Mojave gets uncomfortable and posts warnings. Catalina just stops. I stopped blindly updating my Mac until I see the fallout. That’s what many companies do.

There’s a stupid joke about that. Improving a product so much it stops working.

The Conspiracy Theory has it all the developers are working on iPhone apps and services and other products so there weren’t enough of them left to deal with both 32-bit and 64 bit on Macs “nobody uses any more.” So they killed off 32-bit support.

Audacity 2.4.1 is designed and registered to work under Catalina. You may need to delete the Audacity preferences file.

Close Audacity.

Desktop > Go (top bar) > Go To Folder

~/Library/Application Support/audacity

If you type that in by hand, Do Not leave out that squiggly line (tilde) at the beginning. That’s important in Mac-Speak.
