Audacity not opening aup files when using File > Open

It says I’m not doing File > Open even though I’m doing it. What.

What’s the exact error message?
Which version of Audacity? (look in “Help > About Audacity”)
Is it just one specific project that won’t open, or all saved projects?

C:\Users\yadayada\Music\project_file.aup is an Audacity Project file.

Use the ‘File > Open’ command to open Audacity Projects.

I have Audacity 2.1.2 and it’s specifically that aup file only.

The AUP file is probably corrupt.
To look for yourself, open (but do not modify) the AUP in NotePad.
If you want a second opinion, attach the AUP file to your reply (see: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1)

Yup, it’s corrupt. Damn, guess I’l have to start again. Thanks for the help anyway!

Do you have any idea why the project is corrupt? Did you perhaps shut down your computer without saving the project first?

I did shut down my computer shortly after saving the Audacity file but I remember waiting for it to save before closing it down fully. Idk man.

OK, thanks for letting us know.
If you find other projects are getting corrupted, do get in touch so that we can try to work out why it’s happening.

Another thought: Does C:\ have plenty of free space (more than 10% free space)?

These reports became much more frequent after we changed the AUTOSAVE file to a binary (but that change stopped the issues that we had with “can’t save - is the disk full?” or “can’t write to the AUTOSAVE file”). It’s possible there is a connection with the change to a binary file.
