Audacity - no waveform and playback also no sound after I hit record button

Hi Everyone, Could you kindly assist me as I just started learning Audacity? It works for a while for recording but after a while, there is no waveform, and when playing back recordings there is no sound as if no recording was done. Why? Is there any possibility that something was deactivated?

Did you bump the level controls in the Meter Toolbar ?
