I use BOTH Audacity 2.1.0 and 2.3.2
Problem is common to both versions…
I do not get any audio from any source…tape…turntable…etc…However I DO get audio from any audio file on my computer…
I have gone thru all the settings and I am stumped…
Everything has worked correctly for 2+ years…about a week ago the system stopped recording or playing any audio…
Since both versions were affected I assumed a Win 10 update that broke something…so I reinstalled v2.1.0…no joy…
My system…
Win 10 PC …
EVGA NU Audio card provides output to speakers and line in from source…
Event 20-20 Biamped speakers…
I have 2 cassette tape decks…3 reel to reel tape decks and 1 turntable…
NONE of them will provide any audio…
HOWEVER…If I open an audio file on my computer…it plays properly…
I have gone thru all my settings…I can find nothing 'amiss"…
I’m going to try to attach a 2 PDF’s of my settings should anyone care to look thru them…
However I DO get audio from any audio file on my computer…
Just to clarify, you can open a file in Audacity and play it?
Do also see the correct recording & playback device on Audacity’s Device Toolbar?
You can check your line inputs with Listen To This Device without running Audacity (or any other application.) If that works, you soundcard and driver are working and usually they will work with Audacity too.
DVDdoug…
YES…I ca open any audio file on my PC and it will play in Audacity…both versions of Audacity…
On the tool bar I see Line (EVGA NU Audio) and Speakers (EVGA NU Audio)…
However I am now seeing error messages…
On Audacity 2.3.3 The error message is…“Error opening recording device. Error code -9999. Unanticipated host error.”
On Audacity 2.1.0 The error message is…“Error opening recording device. Please check the recording device settings and project sample rate.”
I’m beginning to think my audio card is going kapaut…I did reinstall the audio card drivers last night…no joy…and I ran SFC on the PC Win 10…
No issues reported…
I am not familiar with the Listen To This Device…but I will check it out and report back later…I do have an MP3 player…
I am also going to pull the audio card and try with the on board audio…
Well…a lot has happened…
On a different computer I installed a fresh W10 Pro and updated to v1909…
Installed the EVGA NU audio card and latest drivers…
I can play an audio file perfectly…but I cannot record anything in Audacity…
Then I contacted EVGA and got an RMA as a possible bad audio card…I suspect the line input section of the EVGA NU audio card
has gone “kaput”…
Then in the computer that used the EVGA NU audio card…I configured it for the on-board audio…Realtek…connected it up and
I can play an audio file…But I cannot record in Audacity…
Next I’m going to connect up the other PC with the fresh installation of W10 and see if I can record on that…
This is driving me nuts…spent the entire day troubleshooting this bugger and a good part of yesterday…
Never had issues like this before…
Are you using ASIO or ASIO4All?
Audacity does not support ASIO (unless built from the source code with Steinberg’s proprietary ASIO library).
If you use either ASIO or ASIO4All, you need to ensure that they are not running when you want to use Audacity, otherwise they will grab exclusive control of the audio device and so prevent Audacity from using the device.
