I have been using Audacity for quite a while now and have always been satisfied with it. Now it’s just confusing me. I installed it on this computer (a ThinkPad T400 with Windows 7) and then I tried launching it…it crashed right on launch. I tried restarting Windows, it crashed right on launch. I shut the computer off for 10 minutes (and when it shut down I pulled the battery) and then turned it back on…it crashed on launch. I noticed a funny thing as I was trying to troubleshoot, my computer wasn’t outputting sound anymore. I tried messing with the volume mixer, everything is turned up. I tried plugging my computer into some speakers with the headphone output, nothing. I tried taking the computer apart and replacing the speakers, nothing. I’m seriously confused. I have non-functioning software on my computer and my sound is not working. I don’t know if it is directly related to Audacity, but my audio was working before I installed it. I like Audacity, I’ve been using it for a while and it’s always worked…except for now. I really don’t want to reinstall Windows so…any suggestions?
Which version of Audacity do you have? (see the pink box at top of page).
Did you download Audacity from here: Audacity ® | Downloads
What crashed? Audacity or Windows?
Have you recently added new hardware? (such as a USB audio device?)
