Every once in a while the Audacity icon pops up on my desktop. Don’t know why. Also, SoundFlower does the same thing.
Can anyone tell me how to prevent this from happening?

Neither do we, from that description. Please try using more words. When does it happen? Are you using Audacity when it happens? Does the Mac switch to the Desktop when it happens?
There is meant to be a “splash screen” with Audacity logo when you launch Audacity.
