Audacity keeps crashing

I am running Audacity 2.1.1 on a Mac Mini (i7, 16Gb) with El Capitan 10.11.2. I am using it to record from a record deck through the USB and output through the headphone socket.

When I start recording, Audacity crashes after 5-10 seconds. It freezes with the spinning beachball so I have to force quit. I’ve not used it for a while, since upgrading to El Capitan and it was fine before

Any suggestions?

This may happen unless you record one track only in the sole project window, export or save project as required, then quit and restart Audacity before working on further tracks or recordings.

Could you try “Audacity 2.1.2 RC1 (for testing)” from http://www.fosshub.com/Audacity.html and let us know if that stops the crashes.

If not, could you attach the latest Audacity 2.1.2 RC1 crash or hang report from /Applications/Utilities/Console.app. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

Gale

Many thanks Gale. Have downloaded the 2.1.2 test version as suggested and so far so good.

Previously Audacity was freezing within seconds of starting to record a track. So I’d start new project - press pause and record - needle onto record - press pause - hear/see the recording start - freeze after a few seconds. I’d force quit Audacity, restart, discard the old projects, start a new one - and get the same result.

Will let you know if I get any problems with the test version

Thanks again
