Audacity keeps crashing when I try to open it

Hi everyone!

I recently installed Audacity on my iMac. It was working OK the first time I used. But now every time I try to open it the program simply does not respond and does not open or simply crashes without opening. I have tried installing the program again. I have tried downloading version 2.02 as opposed to version 2.03, But I still keep getting the same problem. My OS is version 10.8.2.

Audacity isn’t compatible with Waves Audio Unit plug-ins, as noted in the Release Notes .

You can either edit the audacity.cfg settings file to disable all Audio Unit plug-in support in Audacity, or you can move the Waves plug-ins where Audacity cannot find them (but this may stop other applications finding them too).

There are is some help here for performing either solution:

Thanks for the help, Gale!

Editing the audacity.cfg didn’t work. Eventually what I did was to delete Waves from Applications. I was then able to open Audacity. Then in Audacity I have disabled the AU support in Preferences. From Trash I restored Waves to its previous location and it’s now working perfectly. I can get Audacity to open and I’m still able to access Waves on Ableton Live

It should do. Either you didn’t do it quite right, or Audacity was still running in a frozen state.
