Audacity keeps becoming un-responsive

i am using Audacity version 2.4.2 on W10 version 1909 Education OS Build 17363.1198
16GB RAM
Intel i5-8265U CPU
When i finish a recording and then, during saving the project and exporting the recordings to .wav onto my desktop folder it becomes slow and shows wording at the very top of the Audacity window “Not Responding” eventually it does complete the save and export after about 10 minutes
The same thing happens when I open an existing project – first I get a white blank window with the words Audacity Not Responding
There is no crash or error warnings.

do i have to live with this or is there a bug which causes the lag?

Do you have any space on the computer’s local drive? Currently you are trying to write to a network drive and that is causing the problem.
