Audacity is constantly crashing

Let me start this by stating that I am not the most tech-savvy user, and am probably doing multiple things wrong.

My Audacity projects keep crashing. I have recently gotten a new computer, and installed the latest Audacity version on it, and the last two projects I recorded using this have been constantly crashing. I managed to finish one (barely) but the other one is crashing as often as ten seconds after launching the program.

I suspect there are multiple reasons for this (use of an external hard drive, uninstalling latest Audacity 3.2.1 and loading 3.2.0, etc.) but the crashing is constant and infuriating and was never a problem on my older computer, slow as it was. I am at my wit’s end. I would be happy for any assistance, even if it requires muddling through a lot of code and asking a lot of questions.

For reference, I am including the top portion of the error message from the most recent crash.

Many thanks in advance. Error message to follow:

Try to avoid the use of external drives.
