Audacity for Surface 2

Hey everyone, I’m new to the forums and the program. I’m in the process of setting up an in-home studio, and wanted to try loading Audacity onto my Surface 2 to use instead of my noisy laptop. Unfortunately, Surface 2 says it can’t run Audacity in any form (I tried both the normal platform, then attempted the portable version on both my flash drive and MicroSD). Has Audacity not been updated to integrate with Windows 8.1 and the Surface 2, or am I just failing miserably. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you

Audacity will run on Windows 8.1.
According to Wikipedia, Surface 2 does not run Windows 8.1, but uses Windows RT http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_2
Audacity does not currently run on Windows RT.

I misread my hardware then (listed as Windows RT 8.1). Are there plans to adapt Audacity to Windows RT?

There are unofficial solutions online, not approved by Microsoft or Audacity.

Audacity does work with Surface Pro 2 which comes with 64-bit Windows 8.1 (x86 architecture).

I don’t like the idea of jailbreaking a system with unofficial copies on both ends. Are there plans to make Audacity available for RT in the future?

Only perhaps in the very long term. In any case the issue is confused for Windows RT by the fact that Windows Store where RT apps must be placed is probably incompatible with our GPL licence.

A start is being made on writing an interface more suitable for tablets/mobile, which will take a year or so. Then a mobile platform has to be targeted. Windows RT (or Windows Phone) is unlikely to be first.
