Audacity failing to work after crash

I’ve been using Audacity 2.1.2 for some time with Mac 10.6.8 but recently had a crash when editing a WAV file.

Now everytime I open Audacity it come up with an “Automatic Crash Recovery” notice and whatever option I select - Quit Audacity, Discard Projects, Recover Project- it locks up and I can’t get any file to load or display. I’ve dumped the Application and reinstalled the program but to no avail. Any ideas?

That doesn’t reset Audacity.

Go (top of desktop) > Go To Folder: ~Library.
Application Support > audacity. Drag audacity.cfg to the trash.

You can drag the audacity folder to the trash, but that will also trash all your add-ins and plug-ins. If you think one of them is in trouble, by all means trash the whole audacity folder.

Note that trashing the Audacity folder will also trash the AUTOSAVE file (in the AutoSave folder) that Audacity was trying to recover your project from.

If you still want to recover that project and just deleting audacity.cfg does not help, rename the extension of the AUTOSAVE file to something else (such as “.auto” without the quotes), so that Audacity does not try to load the recovery. Then attach the renamed file here. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

Thank you Koz,

Deleting audacity.cfg did not work but binning the whole Audacity folder did.
