Audacity doesn't recognize file as valid

Hello, I just installed Audacity on my new PC, I imported an MP3, and it said that it doesn’t recognize the file as valid. However, I have used Audacity before on many devices, and it imported MP3s just fine. I tried opening a file, or drag-and-dropping, but it still didn’t work. What do I do?

By the way, it’s Audacity 3.1.3

There are a lot of “imperfect” MP3s out there and Audacity’s decoder is pickier than most others (and it does depend on the version of Audacity).

Usually the easiest fix is to decompress to WAV or FLAC with a 3rd party tool like Kabuu Audio Converter. (Audacity is going to decompress the MP3 anyway so although it’s an extra step for you it’s not actually an extra step in the process.)

There is also a way of forcing Audacity to decode with FFmpeg and that usually works but I don’t know the details.

And there’s a tool called MP3 Diags that can diagnose and sometimes repair MP3s, but it’s easier just to decompress it with another application.
