audacity can hear my mic but not record it

so I’m trying to record my mic and when I click ‘click to start monitoring’ it shows the noise levels and they are accurate but when I hit record there are no waves.
I have tried an older version of audacity but still nothing

I really need this help

What level are you seeing on the meters when you click to start monitoring and you speak into the mic?
