Audacity being unbearably slow.

I have Windows 10, and use version 2.4.2

I use Audacity to make videos, and as of earlier today, Audacity has begun to take about 30 seconds to a minute to play the current track, and says “Not Responding” at the top. I am unsure of whether or not this slowness occurs when doing other things. This has made Audacity very frustrating to use, as to see if my edit has worked the way I wanted it too, I have to wait the 30 seconds or more all over again.

I do not have anything else open while running it, and the slowdown does not seem to affect my CPU usage or computer Memory. My hard drive has adequate space as well.

I do not know what else to do about this, and I’d appreciate if you could help me.

First thing to try: Completely shut down the computer (not just “sleep”) and then reboot, then launch Audacity and see if the problem is still there.

Sorry for the late response, but I’ve already tried completely shutting down my PC, and the issue was still there.

If you have a very high definition display, it may help to run Audacity windowed rather than full screen, and it may also help to reduce the color depth for audacity.exe in the compatibility settings.

The slowness still occurs when running windowed instead of full-screen

After turning on Reduced Color Mode, Audacity is working as it should be now, thanks for the help. :+1:
