Audacity automatically changing 24bit to 32bit

Hi there,

I’m using Audacity 3.3.3.
have a client who is asking me to send .wav files at 48kz and 24bit, but even though all my settings before and during Export appear to be 24bit, the final product is always 32bit. Has anyone else had this problem, or knows how to fix it?

Thank you so much!
Dan

You can export as wav using the encoding of your choice - see encoding options in the export dialogue box.

Audacity always converts everything to 32-bit internally. That eliminates many errors such as overload, clipping, and many other editing distortions. Many pre-baked filters and tools have higher than normal volume in the middle of the tool, but correct it later. Without 32-bit, that distortion is permanent.

The down side is the need to convert to non-32-bit on Export.

You can leave it 32-if you get a signed document and absolute assurance from your client that they can accept and use it. 32-bit transmission is pretty unusual.
