Audacity AUP File is blank when opened

Using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and Audacity 2.0.2

I just recorded 6 different piano pieces and saved each as an Audacity Project on my desktop. When I double click the file on my desktop it opens in Audacity but there is no music. The file is simply blank. The data folders are also on the desktop and haven’t been moved.

The same thing happens when I open the file from Audacity as a recent file (the file opens, but it is blank).

I did wonder if my file name was causing problems with spaces and a period {<Prelude No. 1>] but when I remove the spaces and the period on both the file name and data folders, this doesn’t help.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

When I double click the file

Those are the wrong words.

“I saved the Audacity project on my desktop. I see both the AUP project manager file and the _DATA folder of the same name containing the actual music. I double click the AUP file and Audacity automatically launches and opens the show.”

Is that what you’re actually doing? That’s what’s supposed to happen.

Audacity 2.0.2 is terrifically old. You can get Audacity 2.1.1 from here.

Koz

So is the problem that the length of the audio is correct, but is only a flat line?

I suggest you update to Audacity 2.1.1 as Koz suggested, then open the AUP file again. Attach the AUP file here. Also open Help > Show Log…, save the log and attach that as well. Please see here for how to attach files: https://forum.audacityteam.org/t/how-to-attach-files-to-forum-posts/24026/1

If there are error message boxes when you open the project, tell us exactly what those messages say.
