Audacity App Opens but Main Window Won't Appear

Hi,

I’ve had Audacity on my Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.1 for 6 or 7 months and it has worked fine up until this week. Now when I start up the programme, there is no default blank edit window, and if I try to open a project or import an audio file nothing changes and no edit window appears. All of the options in the File/Edit/View/Transport bar at the top are available but have no effect when selected.

I have tried deleting and reinstalling Audacity several times but it hasn’t solved the problem. When this first started I happened to have Logic Pro open at the same time, though it happens whether or not I have concurrent programmes running.

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Thanks

You don’t say what version of Audacity you have and where you got it from.

I would quit the Audacity version you have and trash its entire folder. Then get the latest 2.0.5 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/mac .

Don’t run Audacity yet. Open Finder, Go > Go to Folder and type:

/Library/Application Support/audacity/

then open audacity.cfg if it exists. Select all the text and delete it.

Then type the following at the top of the file:

NewPrefsInitialized=1

If audacity.cfg does not exist, create it with NewPrefsInitialized=1 as its only content.

Save audacity.cfg in /Library/Application Support/audacity/ .

If the problem persists, did you install a security suite or anti-virus application just before the problem started?
