Audacity abandons .webm ?

Audacity 2.3.3 no longer recognizes the webm format. Current ffmpeg installed, everything updated. Paths are good. Is anyone at the project looking at this? the webm format is ubiquitous now. Until 2.3, Audacity recognized .webm without a gripe.

Is this an intentional decision by the team to no longer support the format?

Is anyone reading the forum, even?

Given that there’s around 99.9% response rate, I think it’s obvious that your question is unfounded.

Webm is a “container format”.
Audacity still supports Webm, but only if FFmpeg has decoders to match the encoding used inside the Webm container.

There’s a webm file here and I can import the audio using Audacity 2.4.2 on Linux: http://dl5.webmfiles.org/big-buck-bunny_trailer.webm (file originally from bigbuckbunny.org)

For Linux, maybe, but not OSX. That’s why I posted here in the forum for “Audacity 2.x.x on macOS 10.4”.

I’m running current ffmpeg, and can longer open the .webm format in 2.3.3. In 2.2, no such problem arose. If someone could look into this, it would be appreciated. Mine is not the only report.

Audacity 2.3.3 is an old version. The current version is Audacity 2.4.2.

After updating to 2.4.2 you may also need to update FFmpeg.
I would recommend using the PKG version “ffmpeg_64bit_osx.pkg”
https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/installing_ffmpeg_for_mac.html

I’ve just tested on a fully updated Mac Mini with Audacity 2.4.2 and ffmpeg_64bit_osx.pkg, and the file “big-buck-bunny_trailer.webm” was successfully imported.
