Audacity 3.7 / OpenVino Export WAV / AIFF not readable in NI STEMS Creator Tool

Hi, I installed the latest version of Audacity and OpenVino Addon and the lestest FFMPEG dll for Audacity.

Export of 4 STEMS is working fine.

But when the STEMS are saved to WAV or AIFF and loaded into the Native Instrument STEMS Creator Tool.

These exported STEMS files are not readable ?

I tried all combinations of ENCODER and settings but no success ?

When I load an other WAV file (not exported from Audacity) this works fine.

This is really a bummer since the NI STEMS Creator Tool uses the the new ‘Open Standard’ format (MP4) for STEMS files to use in many Audio Software and Hardware.

All WAVs are not created equal. They can have different bit-depths, e.g. 16/24/32.
16 bit WAV at 44100Hz is widely accepted. Some software cannot accept 32-bit depth WAV.

Hi Trebor, thanks for the feedback.
Tried all combinations of bit-depth and different encoders.
But no success …

Why use a decade-old stem splitter if you have Audacity with OpenVino?,
which can probably do a better job of isolating the different components.

Hi Terbor, You are missing my point here ?
I did use the OpenVino addin to create the STEMS files …
I did export the 4 STEMS files as WAV format…

So far there is no issue.

The problem is that the STEMS file EXPORT from Audacity are not recognized as WAV file for the STEMS Creator Tool.

The purpose of the STEMS Creator Tool is NOT to create the stems files (because I already did using Audacity + OpenVin)
But to merge the STEMS files into a STEMS format file (=MP4 container) that is that common Open Standard for STEMS.
WAV or MP3 or anything else is NOT the industrie standard for STEMS format.

Basically if this is not converted into the STEMS format there is no use in creating the stems files to begin with…

Hi Trebor,
Again you are missing the point ?
I am not looking for a converter… there hundreds available.

If you would take a few minutes to look into the requirements on how to create a STEM file.
You will see that professional software uses this to combine these 2 or 4 exported files into 1 STEM file.

That’s why you need a different tool to combine. But since the audacity exported files in WAV or AIFF format are not readable. This is a pitty.

Since you guys put all the effort to build such a nice feature to incorporate the OpenVino addin. At the end the output does not seem to be readable to be used in a professional software.

@Trebor Forget my posts …

I have been trying different other files and some do work and others don’t.
So the root cause is in the source files unfortunately, not in the Audacity export

Resulting is a STEMS file, that has all 4 STEMS (DRUMS / BASS / VOCALS / INSTRUMENTS) combined in 1 file.

To be used on other audio gear !
